Day 001: The Usual Suspects

2012/01/01

Ah!
My good lady suggests another topic!
Our DVDs!
The order is utterly random so don’t try to make sense of it! I’m going to limit myself to just a few paragraphs on each movie.

001: The Usual Suspects

This is an all time favourite!
It won two Academy Awards (Original Screenplay, Supporting Actor) and it is easy to see why.
During interrogation Verbal Kint (Kevin Spacey) tells the story of how five normally solo criminals are lured into a plot by a criminal mastermind.
As the plot unfolds via many twists and turns the audience are driven on with these five to an amazing and much admired final twist.
Oh, and have a go to at deciphering (the great) Pete Postlethwaite‘s accent!
Released: 1995
Certificate: 18
Cast: Stephen Baldwin, Gabriel Byrne, Chazz Palminteri, Kevin Pollak, Pete Postlethwaite, Kevin Spacey
Rating: Highly Recommended 🌟

Day 001: Facebook posting to a specific audience

2012/01/01

Ok, the lack of topic springing to mind means what I’m gonna do is simply post on topics as they come to me.
So I’m gonna start the series on Facebook.
A long series! Forgive me if it changes later!

Day 001: Posting to a Specific Audience

One of the first things to think about is who’s going to see your post.

On the web portal each post can be managed, both before posting and then subsequently (with some caveats).
Facebook has a default (to be covered later) setting and this will be used by apps and processes that lack a direct control for privacy/visibility. However the default is applied to posts via the web portal only if you never alter the options. If you change the privacy for some reason on one post then that will be remembered next time!
The options available allow you to post to everyone, friends or even just yourself!

If you have created lists to (categories your friends) then you can publish posts specifically to them. Excellent option if the topic is likely to be irrelevant to others, possibly offensive(?).

You can choose a custom distribution. This is quite flexible. You can choose specific lists to publish to or even choose specific lists to hide the post from!

I personally have lists relating to how I know people. Where I was educated, where I have worked or my family etc.
Works for me!

Day 001: Topic Blunder

2012/01/01

Well what should I do then?
I want to blog daily on a specific subject.
But what to choose? I want it to be a popular topic but also something I work with myself.
Security is my speciality but that hasn’t drawn in a readership.
Films could be popular perhaps, I do watch a few.
Books perhaps? I have over a thousand (way, way less than some of my friends but still a decent number).
The most popular topics of the year were Facebook and iOS 5.
Both of these are related to problems people in the real world find with technology.
So a difficult question: what should be my topic?

Continue as is

I think my best approach is to continue blogging irregularly on my normal topics (security, social media, Apple etc.) and to add a unique slant solely for the 365 project.

Tick tock

So just 12 hours left to make my mind up and choose a topic…

12 Days of iTunes: Day 7

2012/01/01

Happy New Year!
An another app! Goodo.

Day Seven

Snapseed

I love playing with photos on iOS.
The touch display makes it a pleasant experience.
Snapseed is a general photo enhancement application; brightness, contrast etc. It also includes some effects that can be greatly tweaked and played with. For example the ‘grunge’ effect with variable styles and textures.

5/5 (useful and intelligent choice)
