Hi,
It was very troubling for me but I eventually got all my controls back by closing all apps and turning off the device. On resume all was well…
Also, is iOS 6.0.1 an improvement perhaps?
Working one hardware version back (like I am) is sometimes problematic but usually okay. So I’d expect your Touch 4th Gen to be perfectly fine.
This essentially (from Apple’s perspective) must be the case as they are still selling the device.
However, both the iPhone 4S and Touch 4th Gen are stated as having iOS 5 installed.

As long as you have all your songs/video/apps properly baked up on Mac/PC then it is worth considering a refresh. That is to say restore back to iOS 6.0.1 via iTunes or even factory reset.
Warning: you are very likely to lose some data by these processes but that might be bette than nothing…
…be cautious if you have valuable data – make sure you have another copy!

This issue of locked screen controls unresponsive happens to me all the time with my iPod touch 4th gen. It’s happening now so i decided to googl this flaw which led me to this site.

It’s so bad that I’m about to sell it. The 4th gen touch should be avoided at all cost especially since ios6 was released.
(Update: I tried the appbar controls and find that they too are not working! Bummer. I’m so done with this iPod touch. It’s THE WORST Apple product I’ve ever purchased so I will not miss it once I sell it)

Hi,
I’d recommend that you contact Apple Support with an error like that.
Possibly try the Apple forums, they are very willing to help.
The audio formats haven’t changed over the years since the launch of the iPhone 4. We have an iPhone 3GS in the house that has no issues.
I sorted out my problems by shutting down all the apps an turning the device off.
When I restarted, the music app and all related functions sprung to life.

I have an iphone 4 and since I updated it, I am having a problem with it playing any music I purchased from Itunes. Not sure what to do.
