It was bound to happen.
Some clever sod has started a series of malicious postings on Facebook orientated around a supposed “DISLIKE” button.
Very clever as this is one of the most sort after features for Facebook, one I’d like to see myself. But it’ll never happen as they (Facebook) have categorically ruled it out citing potential abuse and bullying as the reason.
As we all know they don’t happen on Facebook, no no no. ;-p
What’s it all about:
Users on Facebook, including several of my own 2, are seeing the above request come in.
Luckily they’re all a sceptical bunch either dismissed it, asked for advice or advised others to steer well clear.
All good!
But alas 2 have been caught out!
One news report quoted an unnamed spokesperson for Facebook:
“We’re working hard to block and remove malicious applications that claim to provide dislike functionality and inadvertently update people’s statuses. It’s important to keep in mind that there is no official dislike button,” a Facebook spokesperson told Global News.
There are no entries yet on the Facebook Security page, however. Which is disappointing.
So for now seriously say well clear.
It will self propagate and post fake messages to your Friends (who will not thank you).
More importantly, there are elements that mean you are asked to infect yourself with malicious JavaScript.
If you see it, inform (by phone) the Friend who ‘sent‘ it and delete it from your Timeline.
